The Fall from Grace...

They made us what we are. What we believe we are. What we know we can never be. And TEACHERS are the very ones who made me feel trapped within my body the way that I presently am.

Teachers are not only ones who teach in schools or educational centers but each and every soul who we were ready to learn from. To whom we opened our curiosity and questioned beyond shame. Teachers are those breed of people who make us STOP and LISTEN to their words and make us think. Yeah, those lost talents of THINKING and QUESTIONING. Those are the teachers who have fallen from grace, their whole race is dwindling, they are on the verge of extinction (or very near it). And who can hear the pleas?

The pleas of not only the race that is dying, but also of people like me, the students with craning necks, waiting for that nourishment that would make my justify my little life. But, THEY HAVE FALLEN FROM GRACE and what a fall it is. The proverbial chicken and egg story is being reversed now. Things are going back, the chickens are crawling bacj into the eggs and the eggs are being swalowed by the chicken. The teachers of yesterday used to make students into the teachers of the coming generations. But teachers today make the perfect breed of followers. Where shall the leader come from? Who shall lead those who need to be led? Every student has a leader in him, but without the teacher's help, the body won't ever have the soul. The student is not alive, is technically inert.
What was a teacher's job then? It was to teach the student how to learn, and point him to those directions where the oceans of knowledge lay. Today, alas, the teachers merely give the students droplets from that ocean and a false sense of having conquered all the knowledge there is to know. The teacher has forgotten to learn and that has limited the learner from becoming a teacher. Every one of us have been curious in our childhood, and that was when we learnt the most. Then someday, a teacher told us not to question, and we stopped learning. The teacher refused the knowledge we were imparting to him and he refused the greatest learning of all. NOT "WHAT TO LEARN" BUT "HOW".

Remember the saying? - "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him fishing and feed him for life"

Teach us "How to learn", not "What to learn".

Hugh Macleod Slapped by BBC's Metcalfe
Hugh Macleod , darling of the blogosphere, has thrown a little girly tantrum over BBC's Ben Metcalfe pulling him up on his "wine pimping" exploits.
